StreetStrong Deliver Patterned Asphalt At University of Sydney

June 2025

StreetStrong were recently engaged to enhance the streetscape at the new Shepherd Street Building, part of the University of Sydney’s Engineering expansion, with contractors O’Landscape Architect and Buildcorp. Designed to accommodate cutting-edge learning and research facilities, the precinct is a key element in reshaping the educational experience for students and academics alike.

With state-of-the-art laboratories supporting work across disciplines such as aerospace, biomedical engineering, and computer science, the space demanded an equally high-quality, functional, and aesthetic external finish. StreetStrong was brought in to supply and install Duratherm™ decorative asphalt paving to elevate the main thoroughfare outside the new building.

Duratherm™ is a specialised decorative asphalt system designed for high-traffic urban zones. It uses a unique inlaid thermoplastic material applied into pre-imprinted asphalt, creating a permanent bond and long-lasting patterned asphalt surface. The result is a textured asphalt surface that combines visual appeal with superior durability and skid resistance.

For this project, asphalt stamping was used to embed the distinctive Duratherm™ pattern into freshly laid asphalt, followed by the inlay of the preformed thermoplastic material. The finish delivers a consistent, clean design that integrates seamlessly into the surrounding architectural landscape, aligning with the University’s vision of future-focused infrastructure.

The benefits of using Duratherm™ for educational spaces:

• High Durability
• Slip-Resistance
• Low Maintenance
• Design Flexibility
• Sustainable

Another highly successful Educational project for StreetStrong was the Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub. Transforming the space with StreetBond™ coating.
