Managing Director Kieran Cato recognises the need for StreetSTRONG to be a driving force towards environmental sustainability. Continually reducing the business’ impact on the environment is a long-term commitment and remains one of the highest priorities for the company. StreetSTRONG are looking to continually improve and build upon our sustainability efforts. We understand that this is only the first step in an ongoing process and welcome all questions and suggestions.

Climate Active is an Australian government-backed program. Climate Active certification is awarded to businesses and organisations that have reached a state called carbon neutrality. The accreditation is re-assessed on a yearly basis, and is obtained by measuring, reducing, and finally offsetting carbon emissions. Working with offset provider Carbon Neutral Australia, we were able to accurately measure and assess our carbon footprint before embarking on a journey of impact reduction. We have implemented a number of changes throughout the business in order to keep carbon emissions as low as possible.

At StreetSTRONG, we prioritise sustainability and waste reduction by using low-VOC, water-based products. We carefully measure materials to minimise waste. Our StreetPrint method is recognised by councils as a sustainable paving technique; it repurposes existing asphalt by heating and imprinting a stencil design. This reduces vehicle emissions, traffic disruptions and noise pollution. It also eliminates the dust generated from cutting bricks. Applying our solar-reflective StreetBond coating further enhances pavement durability and lowers both maintenance and cooling costs.

Additionally, we recycle leftover buckets for storage or for segregating colours, and even resell excess materials for further use. Our paper-based tape is also fully recyclable, aligning with our commitment to sustainability and waste reduction. We repurpose plastic items like paint trays, brushes, and buckets and opt for more sustainable, albeit costly, non-plastic materials to counteract the disposable culture in our industry. Client gifts are also eco-friendly, featuring cork and glass coffee cups, award-nominated tree gifts in woven bags, and pens made from wheat.

To offset all remaining emissions, we purchased carbon offsets with Carbon Neutral Australia’s solar power renewable energy project. Kieran was motivated to invest in solar as it establishes infrastructure for ongoing sources of renewable energy globally. Having worked with individuals and organisations to reduce their impact on the planet for over 20 years, Carbon Neutral Australia is one of the longest standing carbon offset providers in the country.
