Sydney WorldPride and beyond: We’re proud applicators of Street Rainbows

Over the past few months we’ve been busy painting the town rainbow in preparation for Sydney World Pride.

In February we installed the largest street rainbow in Australia! Curving around the stunning Watermans Cove at Barangaroo, the new rainbow measures up to 100 metres long and, like the Coogee Rainbow, also includes the Progress Pride Flag colours.

In 2021 we installed the now iconic ‘Coogee Rainbow’. Using patented StreetBond coatings, the colourful street rainbow was applied by our team on the promenade of Coogee Beach. Although the Coogee Rainbow was initially supposed to be temporary, this year Randwick City Council commissioned an extension of the original design. In preparation for Sydney WorldPride the promenade got a fresh coat of paint, as well as the addition of five new colours which incorporate the Progress Pride Flag. The update was officially unveiled to the public on the 18th of February at Randwick Pride celebrations.

Unlike ordinary paint, StreetBond rejuvenates the surfaces it is applied to. The colourful textured coating can be applied to both concrete and asphalt, and is the finishing element in the StreetPrint process. It can also be applied on its own, as seen in the case of cycle and bus lanes.

This year marked the first time that the global LGBTQIA+ festival WorldPride has been hosted in the southern hemisphere, having previously taken place in Rome, Jerusalem, London and Toronto, this year marked the first time that the global LGBTQIA+ festival WorldPride has been hosted in the southern hemisphere. In total, over 200 events took place in Sydney and 500,000+ people attended across the span of activities. However, it’s not the first time that we’ve brought a splash of colour to the community.

At StreetSTRONG our clients, team and the greater community are at the heart of everything we do. We aim to create more liveable environments and communities, where people can thrive, by supporting the construction of healthy spaces which promote vitality, culture, diversity and creativity. As proud applicators of street rainbows, We couldn’t be more honoured and excited to have been a part of this important project which supports diversity and LGBTQI+ Pride in the community.

Both projects are part of a larger initiative which saw 45 new street rainbows installed across Sydney for WorldPride.
